Bridal Blog: Is your mother-in-law to be driving you crazy over your registry choices?
September 3, 2014
You don't want to get off on the wrong foot with your new family, so diplomacy is the name of the game. In other words...pick your battles. But what if your soon to be M.I.L. has no shame voicing her opinion over your bridal registry choices? You want modern dishes and she thinks you should have heirloom floral china service for 24. You want a chip and dip for when your friends come to watch the game and she thinks you should have crystal candy dishes. You get the gist. Take a deep breath ladies. I've seen it all when mothers of both the bride and groom try to meddle in the registry process.
I've even gotten a few phone calls asking me to change their daughters registry. Ummm...no. I can't do that, but I can suggest you have a heart to heart with your fiancé and get to the bottom of what's going on before it gets ugly. Perhaps he can talk to his mom and set up some ground rules, or you can all sit down together and talk it through. Express your personal style and ask for respect when it comes to setting yourself up for married life. Who knows, maybe you might like a few more traditional family pieces to mix it up for the holidays. Just remember, setting up a good working relationship now will truly help you down the road.
