Where did you meet?
We actually met in grade school, we definitely sat at the same table in first grade! We are "high school sweethearts" and have been together for 15 years now. We didn't start dating until we left middle school and went to separate high schools, and Brendan invited me to Calvert Hall's Harvest Dance! And the rest, as they say (proms, gym meets, long distance college visits, returning to Baltimore, buying a house, finding our dog), is history.
Please describe the proposal.
The two of us flew over to Italy for our first international vacation and after MAJOR delays (~12 hours late, computer failures, missed connections), we made it to our hotel room on an island in Venice. I thought I was stressed, little did I know he had been plotting a proposal! I wanted to freshen up after all that travel, so after a long shower (figuring out the Italian plumbing was more difficult than anticipated), I came out to the hotel room and noticed a little black box on the bed. We were both so exhausted, thrilled, shocked, that I don't remember either of us saying anything, I think we were both speechless. I still tease Brendan that he never officially asked me to marry him, but more accurately, after all our years together, he didn't have to say a word and neither did I.
What was the first thing you did after you got engaged?
After shedding some tears of joy (aka bawling my eyes out for an hour), we FaceTimed our family and friends in the middle of their workdays. Then, the two of us went down to the hotel lobby and shared a pizza and prosecco. It felt like we were in a world by ourselves- no Instagram, no status updates, no snapchats, just sharing a meal with each other in a foreign country! We met up with my parents the next day to celebrate in style and had 12 more days to enjoy our big Italian engagement.
When & where?
We chose November 23, 2019 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City. Our ceremony appropriately took place at Sacred Heart of Glyndon, which is the grade school we both attended. Our aesthetic is celebratory and classic. Our focus was on our guests’ experience.
Where did you honeymoon?
Immediately after the wedding, we went on our "mini moon" to New Orleans for three days. We were excited to eat, drink, and be merry in the French Quarter. We ate more than we ever have and had our fair share of a local neon green drink called "hand grenades". We are also taking a proper honeymoon in the spring to return to Italy and Germany. It seemed appropriate to come back to celebrate in a country that holds so many precious memories for us (or is it that obvious that we like to eat and drink?).
What is something you and your husband like to do together?
Most of the time, you can find us on our favorite spot of the couch, spending a few lazy hours watching Vanderpump Rules with our dog, Penelope. BUT when we get off the couch, we like to cook, shop, go on runs, enjoy brunch, and explore new restaurants. We definitely like to travel, but we have to be wise about saving our vacation time and money for the big trips to Europe!
What is a fun fact about you as a couple?
Our Best Man and Maid of Honor are actually also married! We were all in the same group of friends in high school and they just got married in October! They have been dating almost as long as we have.
